ISLAMABAD: As top FIA investigator Zafar Qureshi took charge of the NICL case under the Supreme Court orders on Thursday, the government played another trick to frustrate the apex court and tie Qureshi’s hands by sending four key members of the NICL investigation team on leave till the day Qureshi retires from service next month, well placed sources told The News.
Qureshi himself assumed charge of the FIA additional director general and managing director of the National Police Foundation on Thursday which has shaken the Interior Ministry as Qureshi has been summoned by the interior secretary today (Friday).
The officials who were sent on forced leave included Deputy Director Javed Shah, Assistant Director Muhammad Ahmed, Assistant Director Khalid Anees and Inspector Muhammad Sarwar. They were asked to apply for leave till September 30, 2011, the date when Zafar Qureshi will retire, the sources said.
They also revealed these four members, besides getting death threats, were also being given removal from service threats if they dared to contact the media. The officers have been assisting Zafar Qureshi in the NICL scam investigation.
